An exhibition of photographs by members of the Upper Valley Art League is open for viewing at the Kika de la Garza Fine Arts Center Gallery. This year’s exhibition showcases various styles of photography ranging from traditional, digital, and mobile created by UVAL members. The exhibition will be available for viewing through April 3. All visitors must wear a mask and maintain social distancing while in the gallery. The event is free and the public is welcomed to attend. This year marks the 30th anniversary of Caring Senior Service. To mark this milestone, the CEO and founder of Caring, Jeff Salter, is riding an electric bike over 9,000 miles to visit every Caring location and to raise awareness about underserved aspects in senior care. There will be a Facebook livestream at 10:30 a.m. on Facebook – Caring Senior Service of McAllen. Salter will be departing from McAllen at 12:30 p.m., corner of Fern and Jackson. Speer Memorial Library in Mission invites you to join us on Tuesday, April 6, for a discussion of the book The Joy Luck Club, to take place via Zoom at 5:30 p.m. in Spanish, and at 6:30 p.m. in English. A link will be sent for this virtual meeting to all who sign up. Free books will be available while supplies last for those that sign up. Written by Amy Tan, and first published in 1989, The Joy Luck Club is a story of the deep bonds between mothers and daughters, entwined with the complexities of the past, and of how one’s culture and past cannot be so easily left behind. IMAS will be hosting an at-home Printmaking Workshop at 2 p.m. Learn basic carving and printmaking techniques with everyday tools. Kit includes air-dry clay, rolling pin, plastic knife, toothpick, a tray, paper, pencil, ink, and a paintbrush. Kit pichup is Saturday, April 17 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 to 5 p.m. via curbside at the museum. The Valley Symphony Orchestra will have the 2021 gala event, BRAVO! VSO on May 7 at the McAllen Performing Arts Center. The event will raise funds for its performance and education initiatives and will provide guests with an excellent evening of music and celebration. The musical program for BRAVO! VSO will feature Pasión Primavera, a one-night-only command performance by the VSO Strings Orchestra. The artists will perform a sultry program of Latin music selections, including “Besame Mucho,” “Libertango,” “Cinema Paradiso,” a pop arrangement of “Santana In Concert” and more. The evening will also feature an online auction of luxury items, an inventive socially-distanced dinner, and a virtual attendance option. Special preparations are being made to hold the event in accordance with the available public-health guidelines. The Mission Food Park will be open weekly Thursday through Sunday. Thursday will be from 4 to 10 p.m., Friday 4 p.m. to 12 a.m., Saturday 2 p.m. to 12 a.m. and Sundays will be open from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. Mission Food Park, powered by the Mission EDC, is located at the CEED building on Bryan Road and U.S. Business 83. The site is the permanent location of Jitterz coffee bar and local brewery 5x5 Brewing Co., which will be operating during the food park hours. The food park will host a variety of food trucks including Queenie, Motoramen, Sahadi’s, and Pineapple Ninjaz.
