December 1 – City of McAllen will host their First Annual RGV Turkey Trot at Fireman’s Park, 201 N. 2nd St. from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Proceeds will benefit a local Veterans charity. For more information visit https://www.athleteguild.com/running/mcallen-tx/2022-1st-annual-rgv-turkey-trot-2022.

December 1 – Weslaco Museum debuts their Christmas Tree Forest: Christmas Around the World exhibit. The exhibit will also feature 100+ artifacts from over 50 countries around the world. December 1 – Weslaco City Hall, 275 S. Kansas, will have their Christmas Light Display with a holiday market at 6 p.m.

December 1-3 – The Veterans Memorial high School Harlequin Drama Club presents “School of Rock-The Musical.” The performances will be at 7 p.m. each day. Tickets will be sold at the door, starting at 6:30, for $10. The school is located at 700 E. Mile 2 Rd. In Mission.

December 2 – South Padre Island will hold their tree lighting ceremony at the SPI City Hall starting with a welcome by the mayor at 5:30 p.m. Their Annual Christmas Parade will follow at 6 p.m. The route will travel south on Padre Blvd. from Mars to Acapulco east of the medians only.

December 2 – A Touch of Frost, by Valley Symphony Orchestra will be performed at the McAllen Performing Arts Center at 8 p.m. It is the holiday tradition featuring the Valley Symphony Chorale and seasonal favorites including sections from Handel’s Messiah and The Nutcracker. December 2 – The City of Mission will host their Holiday Market featuring local vendors and live music. The event will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Market Square at 202 W. Tom Landry. The event is pet friendly.

December 2-17 – Skate-A Palooza Ice Rink will open at the Cameron County Amphitheater. The amphitheater is located at 53550 Dolphin Cove.

December 3 – Watch the Lighted Boat Parade of illuminated boats of all sizes cruise through the Laguna Madre Bay. Designated viewing areas throughout the route offers public viewing. The parade starts at 6 p.m.

December 3 – Experience the fun of RGV Modern Band Ensembles and faculty band. These groups comprise students learning new instruments and making contemporary popular music of varied styles. The show will also feature The Minor Revisions, a pop/rock band made up of UTRGV music faculty members. December 3 – Cameron County Amphitheater and Isla Blanca Park will host a tree lighting and firework display at 9 p.m. The amphitheater is located at 53550 Dolphin Cove.

December 3-4 – The 29th Annual Cinesol Film Festival will be held at the Mission CEED building and Mission Event Center. Screenings and sessions are $5 each. Awards ceremony is $10. A full calendar can be found on their website at www.cinesol.com.

December 4 – The Museum of South Texas History will hold their Speaker Series at 2 p.m. The museum will welcome author Marie Theresa Hernandez, she will present her book about Juan N. Cortina.

December 4 – IMAS hosts their Biodiversity Festival and Winter Market to celebrate the incredible variety of life on Earth. Admittance is included with admission. It will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. IMAS is located at 1900 W. Nolana Ave. in McAllen.

December 7 – Join the Valley Symphony at the Basilica of Our Lady San Juan del Valle for a very special holiday event. First, the brass will perform seasonal favorites, then the chorale will perform both with the brass as well as a capella. December 8 – Join McAllen Public Library for a writing workshop on Power Words, focusing on word meaning and imagery in writing. The session will be led by the 2022 McAllen Poet Laureate, Victoria Lopez, and would benefit any level writer.
