September 27 – The Valley Nature Center in Weslaco, 301 S. Border St., will host Native Plant Project’s guest speaker John Brush, Urban Ecologist for the City of McAllen, at 7:30 p.m. The title of John's presentation is "Native Plants for Wildlife." His program will include an introduction to native plants of the Rio Grande Valley, provide recommendations on how to choose the plants for your space, and explore the relationships between the native plants and local wildlife. Brush spends most of his time at Quinta Mazatlan Word Birding Center of McAllen where he oversees rewilding/restoration projects, develops community partnerships, gives educational programs, and serves as a park naturalist. September 30-October 9 – Pharr Community Theater presents Salt and Pepper. Showing will be at 7:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and 3 p.m. on Sundays. Salt's grandfather can't read or write. He's ashamed to tell anyone, and his silence has had a devastating effect on the entire family. Salt can barely read, and Pepper, his new friend, reads voraciously. Together they discover a past, the secrets of which are revealed in an old box of mysterious postcards.
