UTRGV Aaron Barrera 600pxUTRGV Patron of the Arts has several performances planned this season. The performances are held virtually. They also have a YouTube channel to view previous shows.

Their first performance available online is a tribute by the UTRGV Mariachi Program to one of the most popular Mexican actors and ranchera singers of all time, Pedro Infante.

Pedro Infante, a star during the golden age of Mexican cinema, is an icon of Latin America who appeared in about 60 films and recorded over 350 songs.

 

In this performance, their final project of the fall 2020 semester, the UTRGV Mariachi Program pays tribute to some of his most popular love ballads that are now considered classics. On January 22 at 7 p.m., tune in for a performance by Aaron Barrera, violist, as he presents his senior recital featuring works by J.S. Bach, Weber, Hummel, and Hindemith.

Aaron is a Music Education major at the UTRGV School of Music under Dr. Joel Pagan’s tutelage.

Premiering on February 5 at 7 p.m. on YouTube will be a recital with the students and faculty of the Flute Studio.

Under the direction of Dr. Krista Jobson, this recital celebrates the work of the members of the flute studio and provides experience for the students in preparation for their full recitals, auditions, competitions, and juries.
