20220323 Botanical Fridas Press Conference InvitationMcAllen Public Library invites all to experience its newest exhibition, “Botanical Fridas,” celebrating Frida Kahlo, one of Mexico’s most beloved artists. “Botanical Fridas” features 15 eight-foot sculptures and 15 three-foot sculptures that celebrate artist Frida Kahlo’s influences.

Each of the sculptures is an original work of art, created by international artists and featuring many of Frida Kahlo’s key influences. The exhibition will be located in the Library’s Lobby Gallery and throughout the public areas of the McAllen Public Library, located at 4001 N. 23rd St. The exhibition runs from Saturday, March 26 through Thursday, July 7.

“Frida Kahlo is best known for her deep connection with nature and animals. Visitors will enjoy discovering monkeys, parrots, hummingbirds, flowers, and cacti, which decorate these magnificent sculptures,” says Kate Horan, Library Director. “Visitors will receive a ‘treasure hunt’ challenge and have fun finding many of these Frida-inspired elements.”

In conjunction with “Botanical Fridas,” all ages are invited to the second annual World Languages Festival on Saturday, March 26, from 2 - 4 p.m. The international festival will feature food, visual displays, arts and crafts, and performances celebrating the library’s World Languages Collection, a collection of library materials in Korean, Tagalog, and Hindi, adding to the library’s wide selection already offered in English and Spanish.

“Botanical Fridas” and the World Languages Festival are free and open to the public. For more information, call the Library at (956) 681-3008, or go to the website at www.mcallenlibrary.net.
