McAllen Public Library invites the community to Celebrate Our Roots & Stories at the 12th Annual South Texas Book Festival, happening Saturday, October 25 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Main Library (4001 N 23rd St., McAllen). Presented by H-E-B Helping Here, this free festival brings together authors, families, and readers of all ages for a full day of book talks, story times, book sales, meet and greets, music, food, games, and activities.
Leading up to Festival Day, STBF Presents returns with a series of programs across McAllen Public Library locations. Events include Pet Week at the Library and Read Around Town Week featuring visits from local children’s authors.
On Thursday, October 23, the Festival hosts its ticketed event, Un Cafecito with the Authors, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Main Library. Guests will enjoy coffee, pastries, and an evening of conversation with featured authors Diana Rojas, Francisco Cantú, and José Skinner. The celebration continues with the annual Trick or Treat Trail on Friday, October 31 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., a festive Halloween themed event for families throughout the Library.
“STBF continues to grow as a space where readers, writers, and families come together,” said Kate Horan, Library Director. “We’re proud to offer a festival that celebrates creativity, sparks connection, and makes literature accessible to everyone in our community.”
City Manager Isaac J. Tawil said, “The South Texas Book Festival reflects what makes McAllen unique. It brings people together and highlights the stories that matter to our community.”
Mayor Javier Villalobos added, “We are proud to support a festival that continues to grow and inspire. It highlights our local talent and reminds us of the importance of sharing our stories.”
Recognized internationally, the South Texas Book Festival received over 30 awards in 2024, including the Best in Texas Award from the Texas Festival & Events Association and the prestigious Grand Pinnacle Award from the International Festival & Events Association.
