RGVLS has a full schedule of events

20180317 RGVLS Rodeo 2 JMB 0338 webThe Rio Grande Valley Livestock Showgrounds (RGVLS) in Mercedes are going to be full of animals, people, food vendors, and more as they open their doors this week. The RGVLS celebrates 84 years this year. The events start on March the 9th and run through March 19th.

The event, supporting youth education and highlighting the Valley’s agriculture and students that participate in growing animals, will feature rodeos, concerts, exhibits, and discount days.

Trophy Gardens win again

DSC 0648 1 webThe grand champion entry in Alamo's Texas Independence Day parade once again belonged to Trophy Gardens RV Park. The trophy was presented by Miss Alamo 2023 Melanie Nicolette Marez on behalf of the Alamo Chamber of Commerce, which hosted the event.

Valley Star Awards: Another great show

DSCF3807 webFrom the naming of the winners of the eight categories of awards, to the selection of great Wintertainers™ who performed in the show, the Valley Star Awards held Wednesday, February 15, was a great success. Chris Marshall, a local musician who performs by himself and with well-known group The Bottomline Band, acted as emcee for the event held at Mission Bell-Tradewinds RV Resort.

Entertainers who had not been here for several years are making their way back to the Valley. And Winter Texans are returning to the entertainment venues in big numbers. The result was a group of happy Winter Texans enjoying some great Wintertainers™ this season.

Mission Chamber present Winter Texas Fiesta

2022 Winter Texan Fiesta Rick and Curt CAB PREFERRED PAge One webHundreds of Winter Texans look forward to city fiestas that are held in February and March just before they pack up their bags and go back north. They look forward to the great entertainment, vendors, and food. One of the favorites coming up is Mission Chamber’s Winter Texan Fiesta. It’s Mission Chamber’s way of saying “Thank you” to the Winter Texans that make the Valley their home during the winter season.

Mother inspired to get son back after benefit concert

During a benefit show last year at South Padre Island, Tim Hadler made an impression on a mother in the audience. It was that impression that led Judy to reconnect with her son, and it was the GUMI Camp that brought her son back to her. Something Hadler said touched her and made her want to act.

Tim Hadler, a native of Washington State, grew up on a farm with a love of music. Hadler moved to Nashville shortly after graduating to pursue a career in music – little did he know at the time that his music would lead him to other things.

Gid-R-Done continues to raise money

Gid R DOne 2022 Band picture webThe Rio Grande Valley Gid-R-Done Bluegrass Band is continuing to support St. Jude’s Research Hospital by entertaining throughout the Valley. The band donates their time, supplies, transportation, and entertainment to the organization.

In the seven years the group has been donating to the organization, they have almost reached $50,000 that they have helped raise for St. Jude’s. At a recent event, the group just reached over $48,000, and they still have several more events.
