20121201 Hidalgo Festival of Lights JQ 0001 webThe Hidalgo Festival of Lights has become a regular Christmas season must see. With millions of Christmas lights, trolley tours, dinner, carnival rides and entertainment, there is plenty to do and see for everyone. The festival officially began with the lighting of the tree on December 7 and runs through Sunday, January 5. This year’s theme is Under the Sea.

Hours of operation are Monday through Thursday, 6 to 10 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 6 to 11 p.m., and Sunday, 6 to 10 p.m. From December 20 through January 5, the Festival of Lights is open until 11 p.m. each night.

The Illuminated Trail drive thru allows you to experience the enchanted two-mile trail of dazzling lights and displays from the comfort of your own vehicle. Entry is through 23rd St. and Arena Drive. You can buy the Dash Pass to skip the line. Entry is located at 10th St. and Arena Drive.

The Santa Express Train Tour, a favorite among visitors, continues through January 5. Visitors will have a chance to tour the two miles of over 500 illuminated displays and over five million lights for $15. The tour also has a narrated guide with holiday music. Train boarding is located in front of the Payne Arena.

There are still tickets available for the December 19 Christmas Dining Experience at 5:15 or 6:15 p.m. (as of press time). Unwrap the magic with this experience that includes a three-course dinner, reserved seating for the Santa Express Train, Christmas performances, and admission to the Illuminated Christmas Maze.

If you have grandkids in town, you might want to participate in the Festival Character Dining Experience. You can eat, play and laugh with characters during this fun and interactive dining experience. A narrated train tour is included. Advance purchase is required. Dates still available are December 20, 22, and 23.

You can also have fun at the Illuminated Holiday Maze. Step inside this holiday adventure and get those perfect photos with your friends and family while you walk through the giant illuminated displays, lighted tunnels, and the Festival Christmas tree.

And don’t forget to get a picture with Santa. He is still available December 20 through 23. Entertainment will be throughout the month at the city hall courtyard.
