20250112 American Revolution exhibit webThe American Revolution Experience Traveling Exhibit will make its appearance in the Rio Grande Valley at the Harlingen Arts and Heritage Museum from February 18 through March 9. The Lt. Thomas Barlow Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, is proud to sponsor this interactive exhibit.

American independence was not pre-ordained. It was won on the battlefield by brave volunteers willing to sacrifice everything for an ideal, a hope and the promise of liberty. The display highlights the fascinating people and places of the Revolutionary era. It brings to life the diverse viewpoints and experiences of those who witnessed the dawn of a new nation.

How were the lives of ordinary people affected by the events of the American Revolutionary War? As tensions mounted across the Thirteen Colonies, the entire Revolutionary Generation was faced with a difficult choice: to pledge loyalty to the Patriot cause and the prospect of a new nation or remain loyal to the King as subjects of the British Empire. How would you choose?

Thanks to the Texas Society Daughters of the American Revolution, additional panels highlight people and places in what it now Texas. This is a fascinating educational exhibit you won’t want to miss.

Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday. The Museum has rotating arts and cultural exhibits and features three historical buildings on its grounds: the original home of Lon C. Hill, Harlingen’s town founder; the Paso Real Stagecoach Inn; and Harlingen’s first hospital. Also on the grounds is the Historical Museum, formerly the Air Police Squadron and Brig of the Harlingen Air Force Base that houses the permanent collection of Harlingen and Texas historical objects and photos.
