Just about every park has something special for New Year’s Eve. Many have special entertainment lined up with dinner and other events throughout the night. Many of these parks sell out of tickets weeks before New Year’s Eve. So, if you didn’t get a ticket in time and are still looking for things to do, there might be a few places you can go to still have some fun.
South Padre Island puts on a good fireworks show. New Year’s Eve is just a little different, with a bigger show to celebrate the ringing of a new year. Fireworks start at 9:15 p.m. over Laguna Madre Bay. There are celebrations throughout the island at several locations too. The big show will be held in the Entertainment District at 211 W. Whiting St. Many restaurants will be having special dinners and have great viewing spots from their outdoor areas.
The City of Pharr will have their annual New Year’s Eve ball drop. The city is inviting residents to ring in the new year with live music by the Spazmatics, a firework display, a drone and light show, a vendor market, and more. The free event begins at 8 p.m. in downtown Pharr, 118 S. Cage Blvd.
While there might be a few more cities offering some special fireworks displays for New Year’s Eve, I am sure your favorite hangouts will also have some special New Year’s Eve celebrations planned too.
While not exactly New Year’s Eve related, many cities still have their Christmas lights out for visitors to enjoy.
Hidalgo Festival of Lights will also have their events through January 4. Find out more information on their website at https://www.hidalgofestivaloflights.com/.
The Leo Pena Placita Park is all lit up at Bus. 83 and Conway in Mission. Enjoy lights, décor, and displays throughout the park.
City of McAllen will have their digital tree and oval park lit up at the McAllen Convention Center.
Most of the Valley cities will still have their lights on in their main parks into the beginning of January. I invite you to drive around and see the lights, not only in your neighborhood, but your city as well.
Always remember to play it safe. Follow city guidelines about fireworks. Take care of your pets.
Most importantly, have a great and safe New Year!!
