As Winter Texans begin to think about their return trip to the north, the residents of LaFloresta Park in Mercedes geared up for the final two golf tournaments of the season: The Handicapped Tournament and the Championship Tournament. Everyone in the park is invited to participate in golf activities, from beginner to advanced golfer. Winter Texans enjoy the challenging par-three golf course. And there is always the secret wish for a hole-in-one. The park had nine this year!

 

LaFloresta recently had two important golf tournaments. There were 61 participants in the Handicapped Tournament. The tournament had five flights for men and two flights for women. Winners of the A Flights were Kim Humniski and David Millar, both from Manitoba, Canada. The Championship Tournament was held the first week in March with 38 men and 17 ladies. The winners were Rodger Vanderville, Manistique, MI; and Kim Humniski, Manitoba, Canada.

The Awards Party, held March 7th, was complete with prizes, trophies, pizza, drinks, and entertainment. All expenses were covered by the annual auction held in January. The pizza was from Formacio Pizza in Mercedes – which park residents claim is the best pizza in the valley. Entertainment was provided by Carlos R. Canas of San Benito.

Special thanks was given to Bob Fuller, of Mercedes, who has organized golf activities at LaFloresta since January of 1988. This was his 33rd winter. He was assisted this year by Danny Howe of Manitoba, Canada.
