20241113 Senior Ambassadors image webThe Senior Ambassadors are looking for singers this season. An open invitation is being issued for local and Winter Texan male singers to come and sing with the Senior Ambassadors. Don’t be shy. All skill levels are welcome. If you enjoy singing, you are welcome to attend any of the practice sessions to find out how you can join.

For over 35 years, Winter Texans and Valley men have joined voices – tenors, baritones and basses – ‘to create melodious, rich sounds, taking their audience on a trip through time,’ wrote Roda Grubb in a Winter Texan Times story published in 2013. ‘Singing show tunes and barbershop, patriotic and sacred tunes, their concerts have quite a variety of styles of music,’ she continued.

The Senior Ambassadors Men’s Chorus is comprised of men from the Rio Grande Valley as well as many other locations around the United States and Canada, bringing a broad range of musical experience and background to the group. The motto of the Senior Ambassadors’ is “Loving Life, Making Music,” and is headed by Mr. Virgel Kroeker who is in his 15th year as Director.

The Senior Ambassadors Men’s Chorus has also sponsored the Texas A&M Singing Cadets here in the Rio Grande Valley in years 2014, 2017, 2020 and 2024. Additionally, when funds are available, they provide two scholarships at the end of their performance schedule—one scholarship is presented to a vocal music student at University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and the other is presented as a participation scholarship for a member of the Texas A&M Singing Cadets.
The Senior Ambassadors begin rehearsing in early November and start performing live in January, presenting a diverse repertoire of music for residents in many RV parks and resorts throughout the Valley until the end of March. They usually perform at about a dozen RGV parks and public venues during the season. The size of the chorus fluctuates from year to year.

Practice sessions take place every Friday afternoon at Bentsen Grove Resort in Mission each Friday from 1 to 3 p.m. There are no tryouts. If someone has sung in another choir and enjoys singing, they can join the Ambassadors. The group is seeking new members at this time, so if you enjoy singing and would like to be a part of the Senior Ambassadors Men’s Chorus, either attend a practice session or call the Director, Virgel Kroeker at (612) 859-7787.
