RGV Woodcarvers

Senior Ambassadors

The Senior Ambassadors meet every Friday afternoon at Bentsen Grove Resort in Mission each Friday from 1 to 3 p.m. There are no tryouts. If someone has sung in another choir and enjoys singing, they can join the Ambassadors. If you enjoy singing and would like to be a part of the Senior Ambassadors Men’s Chorus, either attend a practice session or call the Director, Virgel Kroeker at (612) 859-7787.

Ed Marten’s Senior Texas Softball League

The Ed Marten’s Senior Texan Softball Leagues are open to all individual men and women aged 55 years and older. Practices and games are played at the City of McAllen West Side Park, on S. Ware Road, across from the Convention Center, at 9 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Practices run now through the end of December. Now through March 9 – Charro Days will be celebrated in Brownsville. Parades will be held on February 28 and March 1. Most events occur on Elizabeth St. through historic downtown Brownsville. Now through March 29 – The Upper Valley Art League hosts its annual showcase, (Journey Through the Lens), exhibiting various styles of photography created by UVAL members. Gallery hours are Wednesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Upper Valley Art League is located at 921 East 12th Street in Mission, next to Speer Memorial Library.

March 6 – Sift through South Texas ancient history at Quinta Mazatlán with resident geologist Nick Morales from 6 to 7 p.m. for a presentation centering on how geology influenced the manufacturing of lithic tools in south Texas and northern Mexico. March 7 – The Phantom and the Best of the Opera will be performed. The Valley Symphony Orchestra and Chorale will transform the stage into a tour de force of operatic classics. March 8 – The Gladys Porter Zoo hosts their annual 5K and one-mile fun run to support ocelot conservation. It will take place starting at 7:30 a.m., with the one-mile run starting at 8:30 a.m. in the zoo’s parking lot. The cost to participate is $35 or $30. Golfers can’t go wrong with courses in the Upper Valley

Golfers really can’t go wrong when deciding on which course to play in the Upper Valley. Dotted with nine courses from Mission to North Edinburg, the Upper Valley is as close to a “Who’s Who” directory than any other area in Deep South Texas.

Los Lagos, Champion Lakes and Tierra Del Sol came out as the Winter Texans’ favorite courses a year ago and they are all beautifully laid out, have all been worked on to keep their golf-ish figure intact and provide a wide array of great golf, great views and, most importantly (just joking) great food.

Now through March 9 – Charro Days will be celebrated in Brownsville. Parades will be held on February 28 and March 1. Most events occur on Elizabeth St. through historic downtown Brownsville.
