January 29 – Mission Historical Museum presents the 1979 western film: She Came to the Valley. The film is based on the novel written by local author, Cleo Dawson. The movie will be shown at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on each date. Tickets are $5 ($6 with card payment) and come with a copy of the novel. Tickets must be purchased in advance. Space is limited. January 30 – The Valley Symphony Orchestra’s education concert is open to the public. This 45-minute concert and presentation is an accessible opportunity to learn and engage with the symphony. Admission is $10. Tickets are available in-person only at the McAllen Performing Arts Box Office. Music includes the theme from Jurassic Park, Schubert’s Unfinished Symphony, and Gershwin’s Cuban Overture. The event will be held at 7 p.m. at the McAllen Performing Arts Center.

January 30 – Three of Broadway’s most dynamic male vocalists will be performing the biggest hits from the most beloved musicals of all time in a special concert at Christian Fellowship Church, 901 N. January 31, February 1 – Join UTRGV for a stunning display of Spanish dancing performed by the UTRGV Ballet Espanol. The event will be held at 7:30 p.m. on both days. General admission is $5 to $15. It will be held at the UTRGV Performing Arts Complex, 1201 W. University Dr., in Edinburg.

February 1 – The Brownsville Farmers Market will be held at 9 a.m. at Linear Park, E. 6th St. and E. Ringgold St. The event is held every Saturday.

February 1 – Firemen’s Park in McAllen will host the Growing Growers Farmers Market at 9 a.m. The park is located at 201 N. 1st St. The event is held every Saturday.

February 1 – Texas Southmost College will host its latest installment of its beloved Living History Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the TSC South Hall Lawn, 80 Ft. Brown St., Brownsville. The event is free and open to the public. The event treats visitors to sights and sounds of the past. Visitors are encouraged to wear their best historical time-period costumes.

February 2 – The Port Isabel Antique & Flea Market is a monthly pop-up experience featuring a wide variety of local custom creations – upcycled, recycled and repurposed; collectibles, plants and jewelry. There is free parking and no admission. It will be held at Beulah Lee Park from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

February 6 – Quinta Mazatlán is honored to host select works from the poetry-art exhibit, Last Poet in the Woods. Join them for an opening reception, Thursday, February 6, 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. to experience a plea to preserve the natural beauty left in our world by artist Reefka Schneider and poet Steven P. February 8-25 – IMAS hosts their new exhibit “Paintings from Spanish America.” This exhibit features 16 masterworks that present a comprehensive panorama of artistic creativity from Ecuador, Peru, Colombia, Venezuela, Bolivia, and Cuba, dating from the 17th and 18th centuries. A special reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. for IMAS members.

Annual Kansas Day Luncheon

All Kansans, former or current residents, are invited to the annual Kansas Day Luncheon on Wednesday, January 29. The event will be held at Peter Piper Pizza, 3101 E. Expressway 83, in Weslaco.
