By Annie Spillman

Social distancing may be necessary right now, but it's taking a toll on small businesses.

State-specific numbers aren't available, but I am the Texas director of the National Federation of Independent Business, and a recent NFIB survey found that 76% of the nation’s small business owners report being impacted in some way by the COVID-19 outbreak.

Over half say sales are down, while 23% say the coronavirus has affected their supply chain. One in five owners surveyed by NFIB said the outbreak hasn’t affected them, but most think it will eventually.

Facebook page created to give small businesses promotional platform

MISSION, TX – During these trying times, small businesses in the Rio Grande Valley are already feeling the impact that the COVID- 19 pandemic is having on the local economy. The Greater Mission Chamber of Commerce and the City of Mission are working together to give small businesses the opportunity to optimize their marketing tactics and boost business via Facebook. A special page will allow them to promote their business, current operations adjustments and customer incentives. For example, while local businesses are currently limiting or closing dine-in areas, they are still trying to make ends meet by offering free food delivery or curbside pick-up.
