January 7-28 – Upper Valley Art League will have their all-member exhibit For the Love of Art on display through the month of January. Gallery hours are Wednesday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. UVAL is located at 921 East 12th St., in Mission.

January 14-30 – IMAS will have the exhibition The Whole World is a Garden by Monica Chang. The exhibit features sceneries along with a wide range of flowers and other elements of nature. The museum is located at the intersection of Bicentennial Way and Nolana Ave., 1900 W. Nolana, in McAllen. January 17-18 – The Pharr Community Theater will have open auditions for their upcoming play, Patricio el Penitente. The cast consists of six roles ranging in ages 18-70. Auditions will be held between 7 and 9:30 p.m. on a first come first serve basis. No appointment needed. The theater is located at 213 W. January 18 – The Center for Urban Ecology is bringing back it’s Foraging Forest program to guide participants into the world of edible native plants. Come to Quinta Mazatlan to see what’s good in the woods for your introduction to foraging at 5 p.m. The program is $5 per person, with advance registration preferred via quintamazatlan.ticketleap.com.

January 20 – McAllen Heritage Center presents Dynamic Art Exhibit where the public is invited to a meet and greet the artists reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Current exhibits are Pollinators and Geometry in motion. January 20 – Frontera Audubon will host a raptor identification workshop. Learn the basics behind raptor identification. The course is open to all levels but is limited to 20 participants. January 21 – Noodle Fest is coming to the 707 Coffee House in Alamo (707 S. Alamo Rd.). Get your noodle fix and stay for the music. January 27-28 – Our Savior Lutheran Church, 1105 Fern Ave. W., in McAllen will hold its annual Community Garage Sale from 8 a.m. to noon, on both days. January 29 – Celebrate the Year of the Rabbit at IMAS from 1 to 5 p.m. The 11th Annual Lunar New Year Festival will feature traditional Chinese, Korean, and Taiwanese crafts, games, and more. Festival admission is $5 with discounted $3 for children ages 4-12, students with an ID and senior citizens 65+. February 1 – The Gladys Porter Zoo will host its annual Winter Texan Discount Day. Winter Texans will receive a special discounted admission rate of only $8 with proof of out-of-state residence. For more information, contact the zoo at (956) 546-7187.

February 7 – The McAllen Wind Ensemble will perform “Superheroes” at the McAllen Performing Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased on the ticketmaster website or at the center. A season pass to all four of their concerts is $40. Ticket prices usually range from $7 to $17.
