The International Museum of Art & Science (IMAS) is hosting its 2nd Annual Members’ Juried Art Show currently on display through the end of December. The exhibition was juried by Diane Milliken Garza, Ph.D. Executive Director, Brownsville Community Foundation Commissioner, Texas Commission on the Arts and features original artwork submitted by IMAS members. The work of 90 local member artists can be viewed now through December 31 in the Cardenas Gallery of the IMAS.

After two years of celebrating virtually, McAllen Public Library is excited to welcome the community to its in-person ninth annual South Texas Book Festival, which will span several days, taking place from October 27 and running through October 31, at the McAllen Public Library, 4001 N. 23rd St. The festival is free and open to the public and will feature a diverse group of national, regional, and local authors who will participate in readings and panel discussions, as well as crafts, food trucks, and other fun activities.

McAllen Heritage Center is excited to share their next museum event. On Saturday, November 5th, the center will be hosting the editor and two authors of ‘Living Beyond Borders, Growing up Mexican.’ The event is part of their lecture series.
There will be reading selections by editor Margarita Longoria, and authors Sylvia Sanchez Garza and Dr. Trinidad Gonzalez.

The Gladys Porter is excited to announce that its 31st Annual Boo at the Zoo will once again be hosted as an in-person event. The public is invited to come out to the Zoo for some Halloween fun.
This year’s spooktacular extravaganza is set for Sunday, October 30th, and Monday, October 31st, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on both nights. Zoo members are allowed into the event an hour early at 5 p.m.

So many sites to see
Thirty-five years ago, our first issue featured a story by John M. Young titled “No time to see it all, but you can try.” We know our seasonal visitors aim at visiting Valley sites while here, and we also know, from the work we do with our RGV Visitors Guide, that we have a lot of interesting places to see.
The article talks about several top sites to see in the Valley, and I will recap some of those here. We hope you take some time to visit the local sites and enjoy the history and locales the Rio Grande Valley has to offer.
