With the situation changing daily around the country, it is becoming increasingly difficult to keep up with the number of event and activity cancellations and postponements. Unfortunately, this has brought the Winter Texan season to an early close for some, and for others simply means a few quiet weeks in the park while we wait for the latest updates.

Several parks in the Rio Grande Valley have cancelled events or have closed park events to the public. Some of the parks that we know have cancelled events include Ranchero Village, Snow to Sun, Casa del Valle, Tropic Winds, Aladdin Villas, and Tropical Valley Acres.

 

Cities have cancelled most of their big gatherings as well. Events at the McAllen Convention Center and Performing Arts Center scheduled for March have been cancelled. Other events that have been cancelled include the Monarch Festival and the RGV Home and Garden Show.

Also cancelled, or suspended, are the Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show, Tourist Day in Nuevo Progreso and the Texas Onion Fest in Weslaco. The Native Plant Project scheduled for March 24th has also been cancelled.

For any other events published in our reunions and meetings, events and parks calendars, and advertisements – please call the venue or contact and make sure the event is still being held before you decide to attend. While we have received information for some of the cancellations, we likely have not received all the updates we would like to pass along.

We here at the Winter Texan Times are taking as much care as we can to stay on top of events in the Valley and let you know where they are happening. We have one issue remaining for the season, but we will continue to keep you up to date via our website at www.WinterTexanTimes.com throughout the remainder of the spring and summer as this situation develops.

The elderly are the hardest hit by this virus and should take the greatest precautions with their exposure and health. We want you to enjoy your time in the Valley, but we also want to be sure you make it home safe and healthy so that you can come back in the fall to enjoy another great season with the Winter Texan Times in the Rio Grande Valley.
