holi sand sea turtle inc 600pxYou can visit holiday themed sandcastles at South Padre Island. The sandcastles are an ongoing thing and this year the sculptors have worked hard to get things done. The Christmas village is currently open for visitors.

The village is comprised of 10 massive sand sculptures and several smaller ones. The sculptures are created by some of the most talented sand sculptors from around the world. Located in the center of the town’s entertainment district and free to view (although donations are welcome), the sculptures are preserved, maintained, and updated on a rotating basis. The village can be seen on west Marlin St. right under the Ferris wheel. holi sand angel

The sculpture garden was originally created within a 60’x30’ tent in 2019 by an international crew of sculptors in town for the annual SPI Sandcastle Days. That first year, sculptors had a display and musical light show. The display saw over 35,000 visitors from November through January. There are sculptures at the location year-round now.

The village is typically open from noon until dark. The project, conceived and proposed by Lucinda “Sandy Feet” Wierenga, has now been a staple of SPI. The project is sponsored by local businesses and other donations. For more information, visit www.sandcastleisland.com.
