The Upper Valley Art League (UVAL) is proud to present its newest exhibition, Black and White, a striking showcase that explores the timeless power of monochrome art. This upcoming exhibit invites artists and audiences alike to experience the depth, contrast, and emotional resonance that can be achieved without the use of color.
Opening on Saturday, May 2, 2026, the Black and White exhibition will feature a diverse collection of works across multiple mediums, including painting, photography, drawing, fiber arts, digital, ceramics, and mixed media. By limiting the palette to black, white, and shades of gray, participating artists are challenged to focus. on composition, texture, light, and form… resulting in a compelling visual experience that highlights the fundamentals of artistic expression.
“This exhibition is an opportunity to rediscover the beauty of simplicity,” said Robert Codina, Director at UVAL. “Black and white artwork strips away distraction and allows viewers to connect more deeply with the subject, technique, and emotion behind each piece.”
The exhibit will be held at the Upper Valley Art League Gallery, located at 921 E. 12th Street in Mission, Texas, and will run through May 30, 2026. An opening reception is scheduled for Saturday, May 2nd from 7 to 9 p.m. where guests can meet the artists, enjoy light refreshments, and celebrate the local arts community.
UVAL has long been dedicated to promoting the visual arts in the Rio Grande Valley by supporting local artists and providing engaging cultural experiences for the public. This exhibition continues that mission by offering a unique and thought-provoking theme that appeals to artists and art enthusiasts of all backgrounds.
