The Museum of South Texas History (MOSTH) announces that the Freddy Gonzalez exhibit will enter its next phase after August 2 as part of a preservation and redesign process tied to the beginning of construction on the museum’s new gallery space.
Visitors have until August 2 to experience the current exhibit, which includes artifacts connected to Freddy Gonzalez’s life and service, including his Medal of Honor, uniform, and personal letters.
This next phase will allow museum staff to safely preserve and prepare the collection as construction begins on a reimagined gallery space designed to elevate Freddy’s story and help future visitors better understand its importance.
While the physical artifacts are being preserved and prepared, visitors can continue exploring Freddy Gonzalez’s story through MOSTH’s Digital Collections, including photographs, letters, and other materials from the Sergeant Alfredo Gonzalez collection.
The Freddy Gonzalez story remains an important part of MOSTH’s mission to preserve and present the borderland heritage of South Texas and Northeastern Mexico. The exhibit will return as part of a reimagined gallery space in early 2027.
MOSTH is located at 200 N. Closner Blvd. in Edinburg.
