20141125 Brownsville Holiday Village KO 6472 webYes, Christmas is coming and there is so much to see and do. If you take part in only a few of the festivities, there is no doubt you will be in a Holiday Mood. Just imagine - beginning on December 3 - this Friday - you can choose almost any town in the Rio Grande Valley and see a grand Christmas Parade. The biggest and most impressive of all the parades might easily be the one in McAllen at the football stadium where giant helium filled characters adorn the floats. This parade is on Saturday, December 4 and begins at 7 p.m. There is an entry fee for this event. Tickets can be purchased at the McAllen CVB and will run anywhere from $10 to $25 depending on where you want to sit in the stadium. Check your local museums regarding the possibility of a Christmas Tree Forest display where locals have decorated trees with special Christmas themes. Some museums will ask for a donation, others will have a small entry fee.

If South Padre Island and water activities are your thing then how about a trip to South Padre Island to see their annual lighted Boat Parade. The best viewing would be from the area of Louie's Backyard or from the Painted Marlin restaurant area.

An all-time favorite can be found at Brownsville with the display of miniature cottages all decorated for Christmas. This Holiday Village is now celebrating 12 years since the inception and is free and open to all. You can go day or night, but the best time is at night when all the lights are on. Thirty-three small cottages each with a different theme will be lit from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. each night. The exhibit will be available for patrons to visit through the end of the year. You may want to consider going early in the day with a visit to Gladys Porter Zoo as parking is at a premium later on. This way you will be assured of a parking place.

To top it all off, just take a little time to pile the family into the car and take a drive through the neighborhood to see all the decorations. Enjoy all the festivities this December. Just remember the reason for the season.
