20200129 TierraSanta The Rio Grande Valley golf landscape is unique. There are no real elevation changes (unless you count moguls), leaves will never fall in the fairway enough to cover your ball and you will never be unable to play due to snow.

That pretty much means year-round golf.

Last week we featured a Valley favorite – Palm View Golf Course. In today’s edition we will take a look at another favorite – Tierra Santa Golf Club. The next issue will feature a Lower-Valley area favorite.

By filling out the survey, you could win free rounds of golf or other prizes – just by voting for your favorite RGV golf courses. You can fill out the form in today’s edition of the Winter Texan Times (or the next two issues) or fill out the form online at www.wintertexantimes.com. 20200129 TierraSanta IMG 8604We encourage our Winter Texan golfers to look over the listing of golf courses on the ballot and tell us which courses are your favorites in the Rio Grande Valley. And if there are some courses you haven’t played, go give them a try. Who knows, you may discover a new “favorite” to add to your list.

Tierra Santa Golf Club in Weslaco is one of those courses that you will always remember.

From its condition, to its design and especially to its challenging finishing hole, Tierra Santa offers golfers a little of everything.

They'll be offering more too. In what seems to be a trend across South Texas, golf courses are investing more into their clubs and Winter Texans are responding in a positive manner.

Other than keeping the greens rolling perfectly and having several unique holes where golfers can choose their path and how much of a challenge they want to take en route to the hole, the club is planning on upgrading its pro shop and restaurant area, while also building a banquet hall for weddings, quinceaneras and other festivities. It will become a one-stop destination that goes beyond its amazing golf play.

20200129 TierraSanta IMG 8652The course is among the most beautiful in South Texas due to the unique tropical setting. There are wide spaces, natural growth and a layout that is sure to test even the most skilled player. At Tierra Santa there are multiple sets of tees so that every player — from the champion on down to the rookie — will feel both challenged and competitive. Their four sets of tees range from 5,300 to 7,100-plus yards. With 14 lakes, and plenty of strategically placed sand traps, Tierra Santa provides an abundance of challenges for all levels of golfer.

Of course, the course is possibly best known for No. 18, the best laid out, scenic and one of the most challenging finishing holes in the Rio Grande Valley. If this was the only hole on the course, golfers would probably eagerly line up to take their best shot. Even strike a bogey on this hole and you will find enough hope to tackle this course once again.

The course is located at 1901 Club de Amistad, Weslaco. Phone number is (956) 973-1811.
