Sunday, January 4, was a beautiful, sunny day without excessive wind or heat and no rain. A large group of people assembled, representing both Trophy Gardens and Winter Ranch RV Resorts, at their shared Golf Course, Winter Gardens. The purpose of the cheerful gathering was to celebrate the grand opening of their newest shared amenity, Disc Golf.
As a part of this grand opening, there was a ribbon cutting ceremony followed by a chance to visit with each other over hot dogs and chips. For most, this was their first opportunity to walk the course and get the “lay of the land” before playing.
This day was a culmination of over a year of discussions and planning that included all the people in the ribbon cutting photo. Left to right in the photo are Mark Foster, Winter Ranch Manager; Bob and Sandy Coakley, Winter Ranch Activity Directors; Dan Rockwood, Trophy Gardens Manger/Wilder Texas Division Manager; Curt and Shelly Brower, Trophy Gardens Disc Golf Coordinators; Angela and Jim Johnson, Trophy Gardens Activity Directors, and Scott McFarland of The Valley Disc Golf Store.
The managers and activity directors worked out logistics and procured the required equipment, with guidance from our in-house disc golf expert, Curt. While all parties were onboard with the project, Curt and Shelly were the driving force in moving this undertaking from conception to completion. Scott and Mina McFarland have provided a great deal of assistance. Scott helped with adjusting the layout of the course and helped us get the course map on the UDisc app.
Being on the UDisc app is extremely exciting because it provides a map of the course, allows players to keep up with their games, and identifies on a map where all Disc Golf courses are located, whether public or private. Additionally, Scott and Mina are currently providing disc golf clinics on the course at 3 p.m. on Sundays for a few weeks. Their support has been appreciated.
Both parks are thrilled to have the new Disc Golf amenity for our current guests, and there is hope this will be an attraction for future guests.
