October 1-31 – The Weslaco Museum and WISD presents Dia de los Muertos Art Exhibit. The museum is located at 500 S. Texas Blvd. Visit www.weslacomuseum.org.
October 8 - Join Mission Historical Museum for a discussion on the Summer of ‘66 exhibit that features photographs taken from three volumes of photo survey books that were part of the Urban Renewal Project No. TEX R-91 in Mission, Texas. The photos were taken in July of 1966 and briefly show the lives of local residents. The photos are of structures on the various city lots that were selected to be part of the proposed Lomita Urban Renewal Areas. These structures included residential dwellings as well as commercial and industrial buildings. October 8 – The Harlingen Police Department will host their 8th Annual Run with the Heroes 5k Run/Walk starting at 8 a.m. in the Harlingen Downtown District on West Jackson Avenue and A Street. October 9 – Join the International Museum of Art & Science for their annual Dia de los Muertos Festival from 1 to 5 p.m. This lively event will include performances, a display of altares created by community organizations, and a Market at the Museum featuring regional artists and artisans. Activities include candle painting, exhibit tours, and a sugar skull decorating (additional $3). Museum is located at 1900 W. Nolana Ave in Mcallen.

October 21-23 – Fiesta de Palmas will be held at the McAllen Convention Center, 700 Convention Center Blvd. Attractions will include Artisan Mercado, fireworks, concerts, and more. Friday is free admission. Admission Saturday and Sunday is $10. Concert prices vary.
