Mission CoC, city join forces to give small businesses a voice

MISSION, TX – During these trying times, small businesses in the Rio Grande Valley are already feeling the impact that the COVID- 19 pandemic is having on the local economy. The Greater Mission Chamber of Commerce and the City of Mission are working together to give small businesses the opportunity to optimize their marketing tactics and boost business via Facebook. A special page will allow them to promote their business, current operations adjustments and customer incentives. For example, while local businesses are currently limiting or closing dine-in areas, they are still trying to make ends meet by offering free food delivery or curbside pick-up.

Scam Alert: Government Relief Checks Trigger Latest Coronavirus Scam

The proposed federal stimulus package announced this week includes sending every American a check to offset lost income from the coronavirus crisis. Scammers wasted no time in taking advantage of this news! BBB is already getting reports on BBB Scam Tracker (BBB.org/ScamTracker) about government imposters calling about the checks. Watch out for these phony government grants that ask for personal and banking information.

Scam Alert: Coronavirus Creates "Perfect Storm" for Scammers

ScamAlertThe COVID-19 (coronavirus) crisis is forcing people to distance themselves from others, work remotely, and spend time indoors and online. While social distancing is a good health practice to reduce the spread of the coronavirus, it may be helping scammers. Research from the Better Business Bureau, the FINRA Investor Education Foundation, and the Stanford Center on Longevity found that people are more likely to lose money to a scam when they are socially or physically isolated from others, if they are actively engaging online, and if they are financially vulnerable (BBB.org/ExposedtoScams).
