MOSTH hosts Veterans Day exhibit

The Museum of South Texas History welcomes the community to the launch of a temporary Veterans Day exhibit that honors the historic contributions of South Texas veterans.
From Saturday, November 6 to Sunday, November 21, the museum’s collections and exhibits team will display historic military artifacts. The exhibit will highlight the contributions of veterans from the South Texas region. Stories will be recorded and archived in the Margaret H. McAllen Memorial Archives.
Christmas is coming. Not something that most people want to hear this soon, except perhaps those who are thinking about entering the International Museum of Art and Science Christmas Tree Forest. The IMAS Guild, which organizes this popular locally sourced annual exhibit, has chosen “Christmas in the Rio Grande Valley” for this year’s theme.
The 28th Annual Shrimp Cookoff & Seafood Festival is scheduled to be held on site in the parking lot of Sutherlands in Port Isabel on Saturday, November 6. Dozens of professional and amateur chefs will be preparing their favorite recipes for thousands of festival attendees at a modest fee. Each contestant’s recipe will be judged on appearance, aroma, and taste by a select panel of judges.
Cities throughout the Rio Grande Valley will be honoring their community Veterans. Here are just a few of the events that will be taking place next week.
The Community Altar Exhibit at Museum of South Texas History closes Sunday, November 7, and will conclude with a Sunday Speaker Series reception from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Fronter Fest is back at Frontera Audubon. The event will be celebrated Saturday evening, November 6, on the back lawn of the Skaggs House, starting at 7 p.m.
It was a fun time, and lots of laughs. Seven Oaks Resort had a costume contest for not only their guests, but also their furry friends. The resort had a great turnout despite being so early in the season. Park management is also glad that the Canadian border is back open, and the grand prize winner was one of their Canadian residents that was not able to join them last year.
