The Rio Grande Valley Quilt Guild will feature Cynthia England at the November 9th meeting. The meetings are held the second Saturday of each month from 9 a.m. to noon at Trophy Gardens RV Park, 800 Hwy 495 in Alamo. The group holds a quilt show in February.

Award winning England is a National and International Quilter. She will present a program on the process of making pictorial quilts, enlarging the design, fabric selections and organizational methods. A fee of $10 is charged for non-members and all are welcome.

Upcoming speakers for meetings include Tina Hilton (Turtle Hand Batik) and a surprise guest on December 14th; Karen Combs on January 11th, 2020; and Angela Walters on March 14th.

In February, during the Annual Quilt Show held on SPI, guests will be Teresa Duryea Wong who will give lectures and Rene Iannarelli who will give classes.
Established in1981 the guild now has 300 members and growing. The Guild is open to anyone interested in quilting at any skill level. The Guild offers friendship and national speaker’s who give programs and classes during the winter season and members give presentations during the summer months. It also provides an extensive library and scholarship opportunities for high school students interested in textile arts.

The purpose of the guild is to preserve and encourage the art of quilting and related needle arts and to provide education for its members. The guild is very active in Community Service providing items such as quilts, clothing, bibs and other items made by our members to local organizations, hospitals, women’s shelter and more.

The guild also has a very active group involved in providing Military Quilts to our Veterans who live full time in the Valley.
