The Museum of South Texas History presents “Women on the Warfront,” a spotlight exhibit available for viewing through April 3. The exhibit commemorates Women’s History Month and highlights women and the roles they performed during wartime featuring photos, uniforms, and an oral history of Angélica González García. The Valley International Airport in Harlingen and the Consulate of Mexico in Brownsville, in collaboration with the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum are celebrating Women’s History Month by showcasing a photography exhibit titled, “Women in Aviation and Space History.” The exhibit consists of 35 images from the 1900’s to present day of extraordinary female pilots who were pioneers in the industry through their participation and contributions in early flight, Golden Age of Flight, World War II, and the Space Race. The exhibit is free and available to all passengers and will be on display at the airport.

April 1, 2

The McAllen Art Walk will kick-off the Irish Fest at the McAllen Incubator, located at 601 N. Main St., premiering the gallery exhibit for the month of April. The exhibit is a multimedia and interactive art experience created by a team of Rio Grande Valley artists in all types of mediums. The exhibit titled “This Dark Land,” explores the myth and folklore of the Celtic Isles, drawing from the Irish landscapes and its dark mythologies. The next day the South Texas Irish Festival will be held from 12 to 7 p.m. with art exhibits, music workshops, games, and storytelling. Green lemonade and food will also be available. The Camille Playhouse will present Jekyll and Hyde for two weekends in April. Friday and Saturday shows (April 1, 2, 8, and 9) are at 8 p.m. Sunday Matinee showings (April 3 and 10) are at 2 p.m. Tickets are $25 for the general seating. Join Quinta Mazatlán from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. as they host the annual Monarch Fest in celebration of the Monarch migration. There will be a Bug Parade at 11 a.m., live music, vendors, a native plant sale, arts and crafts, speakers, garden tours, food and other activities. Admission is $7 for adults. The Museum of South Texas History (MOSTH) will host the Sunday Speaker Series presentation, “Preserving Culture with Native Plants,” featuring Manuel Sabino, grounds and landscaping manager, at 2 p.m. The presentation and tour will highlight native plants in Will Looney Legacy Park and throughout the museum grounds. Guests will see plants firsthand and learn their names, regional history and common herbal and medicinal uses. Sunday Speaker Series programming is included in the fee for regular museum admission.

Speer Memorial Library will host a book discussion on The Great Quake, in the library’s community room at 6:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend and discuss the book. The Great Quake is a tale of the fury of nature, the story of how an earthquake upended the lives of individuals and communities – and how it left an indelible mark on science itself. McAllen’s Sunset Live outdoor music festival returns with a Tex-Mex Country R&B musical celebration on Saturday, April 9, at the McAllen Convention Center Oval Park, 700 Convention Center Blvd. This will be the 43rd concert for Sunset Live, making it the leader in outdoor live music events in the Rio Grande Valley. Future dates will be held on May 14 and June 11. The first concert will begin with a yoga class led by Quiet Mind Yoga at 6 p.m. Taking the stage at 6:30 will be STAARZ (R&B Pop), 7 p.m. Lizzie Astorga (Mexican and American Pop), 8 p.m. Ricky J and Desert Bloom (Country), and 9 p.m. will be Darius Jackson (Blues).

The International Museum of Art & Science (IMAS) will be exhibiting Michelle Stitzlein’s large-scale sculpture exhibition created entirely from recycled materials in a large studio converted from a former grange hall in Baltimore, Ohio. “Industrial Nature” will be exhibited at IMAS in the Cardenas and Main Galleries through August 21, 2022. South Texas College Theatre and Dance welcomes the first ever dance theatre production by a new Dance Collective. The Museum of South Texas History presents the spotlight exhibit titled “Otis Bell’s Edinburg,” in observance of Black History Month, from Feb. 1 to Feb. 27.
