Our Savior Lutheran Church in McAllen will celebrate 30 years of having Winter Texans joining them in worshipping the Lord by singing polka melodies of familiar hymns. Previous events have included “Beer Barrel Polka” played to the words of the hymn “Come Let Us Worship,” and “The Happy Wanderer” to the hymn “He Lives.”

The annual polka service, scheduled for Sunday, January 25 this year, has always been scheduled for the fourth Saturday in January. The date relates to the church calendar’s epiphany date.

The popular service with the Winter Texans used to be held in the church gym with three services to accommodate as many as 1,400 members and visitors from other churches. The last few years, as it will be this year, it has been held in the sanctuary.
