Valley Star Awards names performers of the year
Winter Texans who attended the Valley Star Awards Show at Mission Bell Resort Saturday, Feb. 15, were thrilled by the star quality performances put on by the Rio Grande Valley’s top performers.
The show provided the perfect setting to announce the nominees and final picks for this year’s recipients of the 2014 Valley Star Awards, selected by Winter Texans who cast well over 2,000 ballots in this year’s voting.
Robert and Billie Ferguson produced the show, while the Winter Texan Times published the ballots and tabulated the votes for this year’s awards.
While excitement was in the air as the audience awaited the announcement of the winners of each of this year’s awards, there was plenty of top-notch, Branson quality entertainment provided by six different groups of performers putting on a show like none other in the Rio Grande Valley.

Get ready for an evening of great entertainment from some of the Valley’s best performers on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 6 p.m. as Robert and Billie Ferguson and the Winter Texan Times present the third annual Valley Star Awards.
At the Valley Star Awards, the Rio Grande Valley’s top entertainers are named in 11 different categories, including categories such as Male and Female Vocalist of the Year, Family Musical Group of the Year, and Country Western Band of the Year, plus overall Entertainer of the Year. The awards recipients are chosen by ballots cast by Winter Texans, and the ballot is printed in today’s issue of the Winter Texan Times. The ballot is also available online, CLICK HERE.
Between presentations of this year’s awards recipients, six of the Valley’s top entertainers will perform, making for an exciting evening of anticipation and fun. Performing will be Amber Waves, Susan Hudson Carman, Dave & Daphne, Billy Droze, Jeff Gordon and Jim Greeninger, master guitarist.
Sager named Entertainer of the Year at Valley Star Awards

Valley Star Awards Show planned
The Valley Star Awards Show will be held at Victoria Palms Resort on Saturday, Feb. 25. The awards program hosted by Robert Ferguson will honor the “cream of the crop”of entertainers who make the winters more fun by performing in many Winter Texan resorts. Awards will be presented for individuals, groups and bands voted as best in their categories by park activity directors.
Nomination forms were distributed in November and December to activity directors. Twenty-nine parks returned the forms with their nominations. The nominations were tallied and the three highest entertainers in each category were put on a ballot slip and distributed to the parks participating. The ballots were returned to Victoria Palms Resort Feb. 1 and counted by a group of three people. From those results, favorite entertainers were chosen in 12 different categories.
Kenastons
Genres: Bluegrass, Country
Specialty: Guitar, Fiddle, Mandolin, Dobro, Lap Steel, Vocals, Trumpet
The Kenastons, along with the Burtons of High Country and Mike Hughes features two of the best female singers in the Midwest and three of the best guitar pickers too. They’ll keep it country with a little western swing featuring lots of steel guitar, electric guitar and some fiddle.
Patsy Cline Tribute Show with Rainy
Genres: Classic Country, Rock and Roll, Comedy
Specialty: Patsy Cline, Connie Francis, Karen Carpenter, Anne Murray
Rainy returns to the Rio Grande Valley with her special tribute to the Legendary Patsy Cline. With a voice that is distinctly "Patsy", she presents a convincing performance celebrating the songs and spirit of this country music legend.
Ralph Kuster
Genres: Standards, Classic Country, Broadway, Gospel, Easy Listening
Specialty: Vocals
Ralph’s life-long passion for music became a reality with the production of his first 3 CD’s from 2003 to 2005. In 2006, he was thrilled and honored to perform ‘I May Never Get to Heaven’ by Conway Twitty and ‘Unchained Melody’ by the Righteous Brothers before 2000+ people at the annual COSAP Variety Show at Roy Thomson Hall in Toronto, Canada.
Lindley Creek
Genres: Bluegrass
Specialty: Vocals, Banjo, Fiddle, Mandolin, Upright Acoustic Bass, Acoustic Rythm Guitar

The Texans

The Texans got their start singing country gospel music as a traveling quartet based out of Dallas Christian College. Today the group consists of Sam Ray, lead singer and emcee, his wife, Brenda Ray, who sings tenor and is a comedian, and their son, Curtis Ray, who sings baritone.
