July 1 – The City of Brownsville will be bringing back the long-awaited First Friday celebration at Market Square in their Historic Downtown. This event will be held every first Friday of every month, starting this July. With family-friendly activities beginning from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. and nightlife from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. with participation from local bars, vendors, restaurants, and outside entertainment.
July 2 – Celebrate Independence Day with the City of San Benito at ResacaFest. The event will feature food vendors, arts and crafts, live music, and fireworks show. There will also be a car show and hot dog and pie eating contests. Festivities kick off at 4 p.m. at Heavin Memorial Park, 705 N. Bowie St. Admission is free. Live music begins at 4:30 p.m. The event ends at 11 p.m.
July 2 – City of Edinburg will hold their Texas Cook’Em Festival. The event will begin at 10 a.m. at Ebony Hills Golf Course, 300 W. Mark S. Pena Drive. There will be live entertainment, a BBQ contest, car show, and food. Additional information can be found at www.edinburg.com.
July 3 – Cameron County Amphitheater and Event Center will present Fireworks at the Park at midnight. It is located at 53550 Dolphin Cove, South Padre Island.
July 4 – The City of South Padre Island will host their 4th of July Walking Beach Parade with the line up starting at Beach Access #21, finishing at Beach Access #17. Lineup begins at 9 a.m. There will be watermelon, water and giveaways while supplies last.
July 4 – The City of South Padre Island will continue their Fourth of July celebration with an extended fireworks show. The Show will begin at 9:15 p.m. and launch from a barge on the Laguna Madre Bay. The best viewing spot for the bayside shows in the Entertainment District, home to several bayside restaurants, and at “The Green,” a spacious lawn where people can bring their chairs to view the display. As a reminder, Bayside fireworks take place on Tuesday and Friday evenings at Louie’s Backyard. The Island also features a show of beachside firework displays every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evening. The Thursday shows begin at 9:15 p.m. at Isla Grand Beach Resort on the beach. Clayton's Beach Bar hosts "Fireworks on the Pier" on Friday and Saturday at 9:00 p.m.; and is best viewed from Clayton's, the La Quinta Inn & Suites deck, Courtyard Marriott, and the Hilton Garden Inn beach deck. July 4 – The City of McAllen will hold their 94th Independence Day Celebration with an early morning patriotic program (8 a.m.), immediately followed by the Main Street Parade and the Freedom Festival at Archer Park. Music, food, and games will be highlights of the events. The parade kicks off at 9 a.m. Activities at Archer Park, 101 N. Main St., will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Festivities will move to Municipal Park, 1921 N. Bicentennial Blvd., starting at 6 p.m. Fireworks will start at 9 p.m. from Municipal Park. The fireworks will be set to patriotic music that attendees can listen to at 710-AM KURV.
July 5 – A new temporary exhibit titled “Borderlands – An Illustrated History by Jose Cisneros” will open in the Cell Block Gallery in the 1910 Jail at the Museum of South Texas History. The exhibit features a series of works that follow the historical timeline of the Rio Grande Valley. The exhibit will be available for viewing through April 30, 2023. July 9 – Looking to beat the heat inside while giving back to the community? La Plaza Mall invites guests to let their artistic side run wild at the Paint Party benefitting the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley. On Saturday, July 9th from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. visitors can get their creative juices flowing while supplying the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley with bowls for their annual Empty Bowls fundraiser. July 10 – The Museum of South Texas History welcomes Lawrence Eugene Fernandez as a guest speaker during the Sunday Speaker Series presentation, “Jackass Flats: Tales of the Deltaland of the Rio Grande,” at 2 p.m. Fernandez will discuss why it was important to preserve the stories about regional families and historical events. His independently published book is a collection of Rio Grande Valley word-of-mouth historical accounts as told by family members, friends and community leaders. Fernandez has a family lineage from those who settled in Camargo in 1746, and from the original 300 of Stephen F. Austin’s colony. The museum is located in Edinburg at 200 N. Closner Blvd.
July 20 – Harlingen VA hosts blood drive to restocak critically low community suuply from 9 a.m. to noon. It will be held at the Harlingen VA Outpatient Clinic, 2106 Treasure Hills Blvd. Participants are asked to bring a photo ID. It is free and open to the public.
