October 1-31 – The Weslaco Museum and WISD presents Dia de los Muertos Art Exhibit. The museum is located at 500 S. Texas Blvd. Visit www.weslacomuseum.org.
October 27-30 – The Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show and Rodeo will hold their second annual Fall Festival – Terror on Texas Ave. The event will feature a large, haunted house, a carnival, vendors, live music, and a rodeo. October 27-31 – The McAllen Public Library will host the South Texas Book Festival. Events are planned the entire weekend. They will have their all-day event on Saturday, October 29 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The library is located at 4001 N. 23rd St.
October 27 – Join the fun Planta Nativa Social at Quinta Mazatlan from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Admission is $10 per person, advance tickets required on quintamazatlan.ticketleap.com. Guests will enjoy the native plant sale, forest bathing, live music, food trucks, plant giveaway, plant swap and more. Meet Joey Santore, YouTube Botany Star, as he presents “Crime Pays but Botany Doesn’t” on the north lawn under the stars. Quinta Mazatlan is located at 600 Sunset Drive in McAllen.

October 29 – Smokin’ on the Rio and the Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show presents Terror on Texas Ave. Barbecue Cookoff at the livestock showgrounds in Mercedes. October 29 – The Port Isabel Volunteer Fire Department presents: Monster House at the Lighthouse. Festivities start at 6 p.m. with a movie at 8 p.m. This is a free event. Costumes are encouraged.
October 29 – SPI Birding Center will host their annual celebration of Monarch migration with their Hallowings. The event will feature free admission, a native plant sale, live music, vendors, butterfly garden tours, and more. There will be live performances by Palmview HS Mariachi and Folklorico, City of McAllen Parks and Rec Folkloric Group and Main Stage Dance Studio. There will also be a marketplace and more. November 10 – The Aliento a Tequila exhibit opens at IMAS. A tequila tasting and painting workshop for adults will be held on Thursday, November 17, after hours. November 11-12 – City of Harlingen will host their Riofest at Harlingen Baseball Field, 1216 Fair Park Blvd. There will be concerts, a carnival, artisan market, art walk, BBQ cook-off, a 5k run, food, tailgate party, HCISD performances and more. Gates open at 5 p.m. on November 11 with a Veterans Day Celebration shortly after. Kevin Fowler will be the main artist performing at 8:30 p.m. Eli Young Band will be the main performing artists on Saturday with gates opening at 12 p.m. They will perform at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $5.
