Mission launches COVID-19 resources website

CityofMissionLogo tnMission, TX- The City of Mission has launched an informational page on its website to help disseminate information about COVID-19 to its residents.

“City leadership continues to monitor the situation and as new information becomes available, we feel it is important to keep our community informed,” Mayor Dr. Armando O’Caña said. “The City of Mission is here to serve our community throughout this outbreak. Misinformation spreads quickly, and we believe it is crucial to share factual information and guide our citizens towards credible sources.”

McAllen closes Palm View Golf Course until further notice

CityofMcAllenLogo tnDue to number of people at the Palm View Golf Course, McAllen Mayor Jim Darling ordered that it be closed until further notice. Beginning, today, April 1, 2020, the City of McAllen has closed the Palm View Golf Course to the public.

“In light of the amount of traffic we continued to see, and the fact that players were congregating in certain areas, it is best to close the golf course for the safety of the public and our employees,” said McAllen City Manager Roel “Roy” Rodriguez, P.E.

While social distancing is a good health practice to reduce the spread of the coronavirus, it may be helping scammers. Research from the Better Business Bureau, the FINRA Investor Education Foundation, and the Stanford Center on Longevity found that people are more likely to lose money to a scam when they are socially or physically isolated from others, if they are actively engaging online, and if they are financially vulnerable (BBB.org/ExposedtoScams).

Cameron County’s third supplemental emergency management order with mandatory countywide shelter-in-place

CameronCounty 1Effective today March 23, 2020, Cameron County Judge Eddie Trevino, Jr. has ordered and mandated a county-wide shelter in place to protect the significant threats of COVID-19 to life, health and property of residents in Cameron County. The third supplemental emergency management order is established on behalf of all of Cameron County and in accordance and conjunction with the National Emergency Declaration issued by President Trump and Governor Abbott's Declaration of Disaster of March 13, 2020 and subsequent orders.
