First Showcase was a thumping good time

Every year the Activity Directors Association and Robert and Billie Ferguson put on two Showcase events. These events introduce the Valley’s activity directors to Wintertainers™ that come to the Valley to entertain you. It gives them a chance to get an idea of what the Wintertainers™ are like, a sampling of what they do, and then an opportunity to book these Wintertainers™ for next season, or even the current season if spots are available.

This year’s Showcase was my first opportunity to attend and was stunning. All of the Wintertainers™ were given nine minutes to showcase their best work with montages and medleys that left the audience tapping their toes, singing along, and doubled over in fits of laughter. I left with a rather long list of my own of the Wintertainers™ I plan to go catch their full show or find at a dance the rest of this season. Be sure to look for my husband and I when you are out some Tuesday or Wednesday evening this season.

Another magical story is soon to grace the stage at the Harlingen Performing Arts Conservatory, and they are inviting every Winter Texan to an exclusive showing of Beauty and the Beast.

If you have attended an exclusive Winter Texan showing for either the production of Mamma Mia or In the Heights, then it should be good news to hear Beauty and the Beast welcomes you back for another whimsical musical.

First 2020 Men of A-Chord performance January 12

Men of A-Chord have their first performance on Sunday, January 12 at 2 p.m. and Winter Ranch RV Resort. The Men of A-Chord will be giving several concerts this season. The group is known for their music sung acappella in four-part, barbershop style harmony. The group enjoys blending their voices together to create beautiful sounds.

Renk to retire; holds two events

The Santa Maria Bullring will host only two events this year. The first event will be held on Sunday, January 12, with the second one on Sunday, February 16. Fred Renk will be retiring after these two events. Both events will star the world’s seventh female matador, Karla Santoyo.

Texas A&M Singing Cadets Perform Tomorrow

The Senior Ambassadors Men’s Chorus will welcome the Texas A&M Singing Cadets to the Rio Grande Valley on Thursday, January 9, 2020 for a performance at the Center Church, located at 4801 N. Cage Blvd., in Pharr. Internationally known as the “Voice of Aggieland,” the Singing Cadets are Texas A&M University’s premier men’s chorus. The Cadets will perform American, military, sacred and Aggie-themed numbers. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the performance will start at 7 p.m. Seating is general admission and the cost for a ticket is a modest $10. Monies raised from the concert will go toward two university scholarships. Tickets can be purchased at Copy Zone in McAllen, 3701 N. Leslie Blasing sings at fundraiser in Alice

Leslie Blasing, a Valley favorite, will be performing at a Habitat for Humanity fundraiser in Alice on Monday, January 13. The event will be from 6 to 9 p.m. with Leslie performing at 7 p.m.

Leslie Blasing’s songs span seven decades of country, classic rock, 50’s and 60’s. South Padre Island has been her home for 25 years where she has won multiple awards throughout the Rio Grande Valley and was recently honored as the first “Lifetime Achievement Award” winner for 2018.
