Another duo gracing the Valley Star Awards stage this year is The Lady and The Outlaw. Regan James and Nan Taylor enjoy performing as The Lady and The Outlaw bringing country, rock and blues from the 1950s to today to the stage.
Regan has been performing in the Valley for about 12 years. Regan lives in MN in the summer months with his wife Charlene but has made the Valley his winter home since 2012.
Regan has a long history of performing. He plays bass and sings vocals in the band Country Doctors, named Best Country Show 2002. Regan has performed in show with stars likes Ray Price and has played bass guitar for Lynn Anderson, Tommy Cash, Marvin Rainwater, Sherwin Linton, David Church and Connie Lee. He prides himself on his ability to sing all genres of music, including classic country, newer country, and 50s through 80s rock. He believes the most important thing is entertaining the crowd, playing music that keeps the crowd dancing, and learning and performing new songs.
He has appeared with David Church on RFD RVs Midwest Country and performed at Tennessee Roadhouse in Alexandria, MN on Connie Lee and Friends. His band Hired Hand was nominated three years in a row in the Favorite Country Band category for the Valley Star Awards and even won the category in 2018 and 2020.
Nan Taylor is an experienced vocalist from MI and now resides in Palmview full time. She has been performing professionally since 2010; however she has had the love of singing and entertaining since she was young.
She has placed in the top two and won several singing competitions over the years. She also performed as a lounge singer at a popular hotel in Grand Rapids as well as hosted a very successful karaoke show. She has performed at popular venues such as Val Du Lakes, The Amway Grand Plaza, The Crowne Plaza and 131 Hotel as soloist and with others including her former MI band Taylor-Scripps.
Nan has an appreciation for every genre of music from blues to classical, but deep down, she is a true rocker. In MI she was dubbed the “Chick with Soul.” She has sung harmonies with the likes of Lindsay Lou and other bands in MI and the Valley. She also enjoys singing with her 80-year-old mother, Sharon Graham Swiggum. Her great-grandmother was a lounge singer back in the day. So, music is in her blood and throughout her mother’s side of the family.
Regan James and Nan Taylor perform together and individually throughout the Valley. They say that no venue is too big or too small. You can find The Lady and The Outlaw on Facebook and come and hear them for yourself at the Valley Star Awards on February 12.
