It’s interesting to see the emails that come through my desktop each day. A lot of it is political, and we don’t tend to share that in our paper. We like our of-interest news items. Sometimes I really have to weed through things to find something of newsworthy to you, our readers, and some days I have just what I need.

This week I received another news report about a previously mentioned survey done by Storage Café. Storage Café had previously published an article about top destination for ‘Snowbirds,’ or Winter Texans. The last article they sent out listed McAllen, Harlingen, Brownsville and Mission as making the list.

This new list has some other details, but still have Mission and McAllen in the top. Texas has 26 of the top 100 destinations on this new list. The previous survey had Brownsville in the top 10 as well. Because of the two cities being in the Rio Grande Valley, it also highlighted why the Rio Grande Valley, as a whole, is on the top of their list.

Of course, average October to March temperatures were the number one reason with the Rio Grande Valley average temperature sitting at a cozy 67 degrees.

Next was golf courses and health centers. According to the survey, there are around 22 golf courses in the area and an important number of health centers per 1,000 of the population – no less than 3.6. Other big things they looked at that helped the Valley area was average rent and internet speeds.

Mission, as the survey says, took fourth because of its unbeatable quality of life and affordability.

I just have to say, I am glad you choose us to spend some time with. If it weren’t for you, we would not be here delivering the news that matters to you. We try to search each week for news, events, and activities that you would be interested in attending or knowing about. We do put some off topic news in every once in a while to add some color and fun as well.

I enjoy serving you, serving our readers and learning about you along the way. We love hearing from you and finding out why you come to the Valley, what you like to do while here, and learning other ways we can help you.
