Winter in South Texas is anticipated this time of year. As Winter Texan residents are returning to the Valley for the winter, here at Lakewood RV Resort that means time to prepare for our 30th Christmas for the Children project. We are providing Christmas for fifteen less fortunate families from a local elementary, where many of our Lakewood RV Resort Winter Texans spend time mentoring the students over the years. This all started with our Worship Committee several years ago.
Past fundraisers for this project have included a Soup for the Needy Luncheon and Bake Sale and a Dance. Currently we are holding a Quilt Raffle.
One king size quilt will be raffled off. The quilt has been designed by our quilting ladies. Raffle tickets are on sale now and you need not be present to win. Drawing is December 4.
On the day of the Christmas for the Children party, these families come to our RV Resort for fun with Santa and Mrs. Clause and meet our residents. They enjoy cookies, punch, fellowship and receive their groceries, gifts, and a hand-made quilt for each child. There will be nearly 60 kids receiving quilts this year. There will be gifts for each child and a special gift for the mothers.
This year’s event will be held on December 9.
“We receive a warm sense of the season in our hearts, serving God in His work.”
Lakewood RV will hold several fundraisers in the spring to help them prepare for next year. There will be a dance with Leslie Blasing on January 4, from 7 to 9 p.m. On February 3, there will be a special breakfast and on March 8 there will be a soup luncheon and bake sale. Watch the Winter Texan Times Parks Calendars for other dates and times.
